Taking Charge of Your Career Development

If you're eager to learn whatever you can to progress in your job, State Street has all the options you'll need. We believe that an investment in the individual is an investment in the continued success of our company.

We are committed to helping our employees find professional and personal fulfillment at State Street. From entry-level to management to executive roles, we foster a spirit of learning in each employee. Training is a key strategy for maintaining our innovative, service-oriented, and highly-qualified edge.

Our commitment to professional training is based on the belief that education is the most effective way to equip our employees with the tools – conceptual, analytical, technical, operational, and interpersonal – needed to perform at their best to fulfill our client obligations. At State Street, performance and training are closely intertwined.

State Street Institute: On-Site Training

The State Street Institute, established as a permanent on-site facility in North Quincy, Massachusetts, nearly 15 years ago, offers a worldwide network of regional training centers for our employees. In 2000, the Institute offered some 1,800 classes, in which nearly all of our employees participated. Overall, the Institute invests more than $30 million in training for our employees each year.

The Institute provides courses in three categories:

  • Skills and Functional Training – concentrates on operations principles in the securities industry.
  • Professional Development – helps employees enhance their competencies in such areas as customer service, communications, project management, finance, interpersonal, and personal computer skills.
  • Management Development – courses are available to support all levels of our managers.

All new employees participate in Valuing Diversity. Our one-day Valuing Diversity class helps participants increase their awareness of diversity by examining its influence on individual and group socialization.

From Classrooms to Computer-Based Training

Institute courses are presented by subject matter experts within our company, external consultants, and faculty from Harvard Business School. State Street offers traditional classroom instruction, simulated work environments, video conference courses, and computer-based training. And if the best option for you is training when you have time, State Street's Virtual Institute online learning platform provides access to more than 300 courses and 1,000 technical reference books.

Support for Continued Education

Employees can also take advantage of State Street's partnerships with academic institutions for other continued education programs, to pursue advanced degrees or other certificate programs, many of which are covered by our tuition reimbursement plan.

On the personal growth side, State Street's Work/Life department offers a variety of seminars and workshops that can help you in other areas of your life – from financial planning to health and wellness maintenance.
