At State Street, charitable giving continues to be an
integral part of our corporate culture. Primarily through two donor programs –
the United Way Campaign and the Matching Gift program – our employees
contributed more than $3.8 million in 2007 to a variety of local charities and
educational institutions. In addition, the State Street Foundation matched these
gifts at the $3.4 million level.
State Street's philanthropic
support for United Way agencies
throughout North America includes
contributions from the State Street
Foundation and our employees. In 2007,
employee contributions of US$3.1
million and a corporate gift of $2.7
million allowed State Street to make a
total contribution of $5.8 million –
the first year the company surpassed
the $5 million mark.
In the Greater Boston area, State
Street has ranked as the largest
single contributor to the United Way
of Massachusetts Bay for 17
consecutive years. In addition to
Massachusetts, State Street provided
corporate and employee support to
United Way agencies in California
(Alameda/San Francisco, Los Angeles,
and Newport Beach), Atlanta, Kansas
City, MO, Princeton, NJ, New York, NY,
and Winston-Salem, NC, as well as in
the Canadian cities of Montreal,
Toronto and Vancouver.
In 2007 the State Street
Foundation, Inc. expanded its Matching
Gift program by introducing three
distinct methods of matching employee
donations:
GiveMore, provides a match
of financial contributions to
charitable organizations or
educational institutions
DoMore, provides a monetary
grant as a match for volunteer efforts
with a charitable nonprofit
CollectMore, provides a
match of fulfilled pledges raised by
an individual employee for an
organized fund-raising event
These three Matching Gift methods
expand the ways in which employees and
directors can give back to their
communities, through donations of
money, time and through fundraising
efforts. The program is open to most
qualified nonprofit organizations
designated as a public charity under
the 501(C)(3) code and to qualified
accredited educational institutions.
To lengthen the program’s global
reach, the Matching Gift program is in
the process of launching to State
Street’s offices around the world. In
addition to the US, the program is
currently available in Australia,
Canada, the Cayman Islands, Ireland,
and the United Kingdom.
During 2007, State Street
Foundation provided $700,000 to match
nearly 1,600 employee contributions.
