Jeff Carp is an executive vice president, and the chief legal officer and secretary, of State Street Corporation, where he is responsible for the company’s legal, regulatory and security functions globally. He is also a member of State Street’s Management Committee, the company’s most senior strategy and policy-making team.
Before joining State Street in 2006, Mr. Carp served as general counsel at MFS Investment Management® (MFS®) for approximately two years. At MFS, Mr. Carp served as a member of its Management Committee and was a member of various boards and governance committees.
Prior to joining MFS, Mr. Carp spent 22 years in the corporate department of Hale & Dorr LLP (now Wilmer Hale), where he was a senior partner. At Hale & Dorr, Mr. Carp served on the firm’s executive committee, and was the chair of the corporate department opinions committee. Mr. Carp had a transactional corporate and securities practice with an emphasis on securities law compliance, mergers, acquisitions, and the representation of financial institutions and technology companies.
Mr. Carp currently serves as chairman of the Managing Board of The Clearing House Association, L.L.C. Mr. Carp has lectured to legal and professional organizations and participated on panels at industry conferences on compensation, Sarbanes-Oxley, legal opinions, soft dollars, regulatory examinations and other corporate and securities law topics. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger.
Mr. Carp received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and economics from Tufts University and a Juris Doctor from George Washington University National Law School, where he served as an editor of The George Washington Law Review. He is a member of the American and Massachusetts bar associations.
