Executive Vice President and chief administrative officer for State Street
Karen Keenan is the chief administrative officer for State Street. In this capacity, she leads key components of the firm’s regulatory initiatives and oversees cross-organizational programs related to data governance, business-line controls and Compliance. She is also a member of State Street’s Management Committee, the company’s most senior strategy and policy-making team.
Karen is one of eight senior-level women to be recognized for outstanding achievement in business and management by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. She was selected for the 2018 Pinnacle Awards’ category of Private Sector Management based on her impact on leading both gender diversity and cultural change programs at State Street.
Formerly, Karen led our Global Markets division worldwide. She rose through the ranks of that organization, starting as chief strategy officer and then moving to London to become head of Global Markets EMEA. Upon her return to the US, she became the chief operating officer and then assumed responsibility for the Portfolio Solutions, Global Link, Securities Finance and Foreign Exchange businesses over time.
Karen joined the company in July 2007 as part of the acquisition of Investors Financial (IBT). She served as chief financial officer at Investors Bank & Trust during its initial public offering and its early years as a public company. She led IBT’s integration efforts and spent three years in a leadership role within the US Investor Services division of State Street Global Services.
Karen holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Bentley College and a Master of Business Administration from Babson College. Karen is a director on the board of City Year Boston, and a former director of CLS Bank. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
