State Street Brexometer

The State Street Brexometer Index is our quarterly snapshot that gauges investor sentiment on the impact of Brexit.

October 2017

Since the UK’s decision to leave the European Union on 26 June 2016, questions still remain as to what the actual exit scenario will look like. Consequently, our latest Brexometer survey reveals increased pessimism towards the outlook in relation to the post-Brexit world.

In our fourth-quarter survey, together with PollRight*, we surveyed 100 professional global investors between 27 September and 10 October 2017.

Here’s what we found

Our latest survey data paints a somewhat downbeat outlook for economic growth prospects. Among our investors polled, positive sentiment towards the growth outlook deteriorated by 5 percent with a slight increase (1.4 percent) for those holding a negative view on the economic impact of Brexit. Furthermore due to the potential financial impact of Brexit, companies are undertaking their own due diligence to assess what specific support they will need once the UK leaves the EU. From our survey, there was a notable increase (9.8 percent) in respondents who believed that they will need greater support in transition management and custody and accounting (7.4 percent).

Our research, along with commentary from our experts, can help you get ready as the Brexit countdown begins.
