Data and Analytics:
A State Street Study
Data is changing the ways in which people manage their investments. Our survey looks at how institutional investors are using data and analytics, and where they see the opportunities.
State Street commissioned PollRight* to conduct a survey of sophisticated investors for their views on how their institutions manage data and analytics.
Respondents to the survey comprised institutional and alternative investors from around the world**. In total, 86 individuals participated. The research was conducted between March 12 and April 9, 2018.
Here’s what we found:
More than half (52 percent) of institutional investors surveyed currently conduct all of their data management functions in-house, however, by 2021, this is expected to fall to 36 percent, with 15 percent aiming to fully outsource this role to an external partner.
57 percent of survey respondents say that regulatory changes have driven their firm to make major technological investments over the past five years. And more than one-fifth (22 percent) say that data and analytics capabilities have become one of their most important competitive advantages.
