State Street’s quarterly overview of important legislative and regulatory developments in the European Union.
Brexit and related regulatory developments continue to be the topic “du jour” across the EU. The official triggering of Article 50 on 29 March, 2017 means the clock is ticking as the UK begins the exit process. And with another election for the UK in early June, along with recent elections in the Netherlands and France, and upcoming votes in Germany, Greece and possibly Italy, the European election calendar is certainly busy.
On the legislative side, initiatives such as Risk Reduction Measures/Package, the proposed Simple, Transparent and Standardised Securitisation Regulation, and the long-awaited finalization of PRIIPs are also keeping the market eventful.
Overall, there’s a significant degree of ongoing regulatory activity – even if the focus has turned to implementation and finalization of pending initiatives.
