CORPORATE INFORMATION

I recently saw a magazine ad from State Street, and there was no reference to "State Street Bank." Was the word "Bank" dropped from your name?

Yes. In October 1999, we sold our retail and commercial banking services to Citizens Bank, with the objective of focusing all of our resources on our core client base — global investors. Today, we are known in the marketplace as State Street. Legally, State Street Bank and Trust Company remains our full name and State Street Corporation is the correct name of our holding company. The name you saw in the ad is more in line with our refined business focus, providing complete, customized financial services to sophisticated institutional and individual investors. Our old name, "State Street Bank," still sits atop our corporate headquarters building in Boston, as the sign has become a familiar historic landmark for visitors to the city.
