Corporate Responsibility

Corporate Citizenship

As part of our commitment to the economic well‐being of our communities around the world, we are dedicated to supporting education and workforce development for less‐advantaged populations.

We manage giving programs in 38 communities around the world. Across the globe, our employees volunteer on regional committees, identifying needs and partnering with local non-profits to create meaningful change.

Community Investment

Through State Street Foundation, our charitable arm, we make grants to non-profits and non-governmental organisations in 26 countries. The foundation’s primary strategic focus areas are education and workforce development.

We believe that the most effective way to improve the overall well-being of our communities is to help disadvantaged individuals earn and make a living. By focusing on education and work, we will bring lasting economic benefits to the communities where we live and work.

Some of our partners include:

  • China Women’s Development Foundation
  • Hangzhou Charity Federation
  • Chunhui BoAi Children’s Foundation (OneSky)

Our Giving, Investing, Volunteering by Employees (GIVE) programme allows employees to decide how to create meaningful impact on the communities where we live and work. To do so, it recognises the charitable contributions made by our employees by monetising volunteer time (DoMore), matching financial donations (GiveMore) and supporting individual fundraising efforts (CollectMore).

Employee Engagement

Employees receive two paid days a year to volunteer their time and service in local communities for causes they are passionate about. Through our volunteer programme, we help community organisations draw on the resources and talents of our employees. We also support the communities where we work, sponsoring charitable fundraising events and contributing to small business and affordable housing investment funds. We are proud that our employees contributed more than 82,000 volunteer hours in support of over 1,000 unique community organisations in 2019.

Employee‐led committees also help us execute our strategy in 38 communities around the world. Opportunities are available for employees to guide State Street Foundation grants, become volunteer ambassadors or join a non-profit board of directors.

In Mainland China, our employees work with NGOs such as Hangzhou Net Volunteer Association, Zhejiang Youth Development Foundation and Hangzhou Municipal Charity Federation to give their time and energy to causes that matter, through our many volunteering programmes. In 2019, our Mainland China offices contribute more than 4,400 volunteer hours to the local communities.

Inclusion & Diversity

As a global company, we value the experiences, interests and capabilities that make our employees unique. A diverse workforce and an inclusive culture are essential parts of our corporate identity. Together, inclusion and diversity provide us with a variety of perspectives to draw from as we innovate, engage, constructively debate, and create our way ahead.

Global Inclusion & Diversity is our company-wide initiative to make our employees feel engaged and recognised for their unique talents and contributions to our business.

Employee Networks

In Mainland China, we have many networks and groups for our employees that are run directly by them. These groups help them come together around a common goal, share their unique perspectives and increase their visibility across the company. They also create opportunities for networking and professional development.
