Mike Butler
Executive Vice President, Chief Resiliency Officer & UK Chief Operating Officer

Mike Butler is executive vice president, chief resiliency officer and United Kingdom chief operating officer at State Street. He plays a pivotal role in defining the firm’s overall approach, current position, response, and plans for maintaining the operational resilience of key client services and meeting its other external obligations.

Mike is globally responsible for the firm’s enterprise resiliency, including third-party, cyber and technology resiliency, as well as business continuity. In addition, as UK Chief Operating Officer, Mike is accountable to the UK business and UK regulators for technology, cybersecurity, change management, business controls, resiliency and outsourcing.

He is a 25-year veteran of the financial services industry, with experience in leading multiple transformation programs, delivering regulatory remediation, transforming risk management, supporting location strategy and changes to working practices, and building and operating global functions.

Mike joined State Street from Santander UK, where he was chief resilience and control officer. Before that, he held executive positions at several other firms, including Barclays, Nomura, and Deutsche Bank.

He is passionate about developing his teams and is a champion of talent management, including diversity and inclusion, neurodiversity, and supporting military veterans transition into roles in financial services.

Mike has a degree in geology with geophysics from Imperial College London. In his spare time, he enjoys riding and building custom motorcycles, listening to and playing music, and spending time with his young family.
