Steven Umlauf
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Risk Officer for Enterprise Risk Management
Steven Umlauf is executive vice president and chief financial risk officer at State Street. In this role, Steven serves as a member of the executive management team for Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance, and on various senior risk committees.
Steven and his team provide second line oversight of State Street Markets, Corporate Treasury, Global Credit Finance, and Capital Management, globally. They are also responsible for risk modeling and analytics, Enterprise Risk Management governance, and strategic risk.
Before joining State Street, Steven served as head of Model Risk Management and later as chief risk officer for Finance at Citigroup. Prior to that, he led the Investment Analytics function for AIG. Earlier in his career, Steven worked for Morgan Stanley in roles including chief risk officer of Merchant Banking, head of Capital Markets and deputy head of Investment Banking in Tokyo, and head of US Convertibles and Equity Derivatives Origination.
Ahead of entering the financial services industry, Steven was assistant professor of Finance at London Business School and has published research in leading academic journals. He earned his doctorate in applied economics from MIT and his Bachelor of Arts in economics summa cum laude from Duke University and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
