Welcome to our first Digital Digest of 2026. Last year brought meaningful progress across the digital assets landscape, including significant advancements in product innovation and legislation that supported industry growth. This momentum carried into 2026, accelerating adoption as the market continues to mature.
At State Street, we reached a major milestone in January with the launch of our Digital Assets Platform (DAP), a critical step in advancing our digital strategy. The platform will enable us to roll out digital wallet management, custody, and cash capabilities. It will also support tokenized product issuance and development across jurisdictions operating on both private and permissioned blockchain networks.
The DAP builds on our strong digital assets track record of providing fund administration to nearly US$22 billion of funds investing in digital assets, and our key role as custodian to bonds on the JP Morgan Digital Assets Service. This collaboration exemplifies our position at the center of the hybrid decentralized finance (DeFi) and traditional finance (TradFi) environment.
Leading our efforts in this space is Angus Fletcher, our newly appointed head of Digital Assets Solutions, whom I’m delighted to introduce in this edition. Angus shares a detailed overview of the DAP and offers his perspectives on the industry, which he will continue to do by introducing future editions of the Digital Digest.
In this issue, we also continue our close examination of the evolving regulatory environment. With the recent guidance from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on the status of tokenized securities, there is more clarity in this space. Sam ten Cate, head of Digital Strategy at State Street Investment Management, provides a detailed analysis of these implications. Additionally, Justin McCormack, head of Legal, Digital Assets Solutions also offers a broader view of last year’s regulatory developments and highlights what may come in 2026.
The pace of change across digital assets continues to rapidly advance, and we understand how challenging it can be to stay current. As the Digital Digest enters its fourth year, our focus remains on cutting through the noise and delivering essential news and analysis to help our clients — and the wider industry — better understand what they need to know.
Our latest research reveals that asset managers are ramping up digital investments, with crypto and tokenized assets driving future growth.
Sam ten Cate unpacks what asset managers and owners need to know about structure, custody, and compliance as tokenized markets evolve.
Justin McCormack shares key takeaways from 2025’s regulatory landscape and what asset managers should watch in 2026 as digital asset rules take shape.
