J. Scott Carpenter

Scott Carpenter is executive vice president and global chief operating officer for Alternatives Investment Services (AIS) at State Street. He is also the head of AIS in North America and is a member of State Street’s Executive Operating Group. In his current role, he leads the operating and client service teams in Boston, New York, New Jersey, Toronto, Atlanta, Kansas City, Sacramento, Cayman, Ireland, Luxembourg, London, Poland, Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo and Shanghai.

Prior to this role, Scott has held various executive positions in State Street’s Alternatives business, including senior managing director and chief operating officer of IFS in New York from 2006-2011; global head of AIS Client Relationship Management and Strategy from 2011-2014; global co-head of AIS’ Hedge Fund Administration business responsible for the IFS operating teams in Europe and Asia, as well as for the global customers serviced from those locations from 2014-2016; and global head of private equity and real assets from 2016-2018. Scott has also held operational, accounting and customer servicing roles over the last 28 years including expatriate assignments in our Luxembourg, Sydney and Tokyo offices. Leveraging this experience, he led the client consulting practice from 2000-2003, where he worked closely with global investment managers, requiring insights on how to optimize their internal operations for accounting, administration, middle office and transfer agency. From 2004-2006, he was the department head in global business development, where he was responsible for new business opportunities with our multi-product, multi-jurisdictional customers.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in management and entrepreneurial studies from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and is an active member of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association. He is also the chairman of the Board of Directors of International Fund Services Ireland Limited; director of the Boston-based nonprofit Career Collaborative; and is a recent inductee into the Global Custodian Securities Services Hall of Fame.
