Bart Wakabayashi is the Representative in Japan and Tokyo Branch Manager of State Street Bank and Trust Company, Tokyo Branch.

In this role he focuses on developing and expanding our Principal Foreign Exchange business in Japan, leading the Branch Management Team and the execution of Japan country strategy along with broader regional and global goals. Prior to his current responsibility, Bart was Head of Foreign Exchange Sales for State Street Bank and Trust, Hong Kong Branch and was responsible for leading a team of highly experienced sales professionals with mandates to expand and grow the Foreign Exchange business in greater Asia. Before moving to Hong Kong, Bart was Vice President and Head of FX Sales & Trading of State Street Bank and Trust Company, Tokyo Branch. Bart is also a former member of the Tokyo Foreign Exchange Market Committee and a voting member of the International Bankers Association of Japan’s Banking sector Committee.

Bart was also Head of eFX Sales APAC, establishing and growing client relationships receiving our algorithmic generated pricing. His responsibilities included management of sales teams in Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei and Tokyo; covering multiple sector clients which included Asset Managers, Insurance, Official Institutions, Alternative Investor, and FX Aggregators. Bart originally joined State Street Tokyo in 2000 and was stationed in our APAC Hong Kong hub for two stints 2011-2013 and 2016-2017, executing regional responsibilities.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration from St. Mary’s College of California after graduating from St. Mary’s International School in Tokyo, Japan. His over 20 years in Foreign Exchange started in Tokyo and have taken him to stops in Toronto, Sydney and Hong Kong.
