Leadership
Ritu Shirgaokar is executive vice president and head of International Legal Services for State Street. In this role, she oversees all legal and regulatory matters for State Street outside of the Americas and manages all non-United States legal professionals. Ritu is the principal legal adviser to senior executive leadership with respect to State Street’s international business and operations across twenty-nine jurisdictions. She also serves as counsel to the Board of State Street International Holdings, and the Supervisory Board of State Street Bank International, our European banking subsidiary.
Ritu brings more than thirty years of legal and leadership experience across global markets, with deep expertise in regulatory strategy, governance and international banking, including through the global financial crises. She is a committed advocate for inclusion and diversity at work, a mentor and executive sponsor of the UK Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage employee network, and has been recognized in the Empower Executive Role Model lists for several years.
Most recently Ritu served as the global head of Regulatory Legal, counseling on US and worldwide regulatory matters pertaining to State Street’s status as a US global systematically important bank (G-SIB). She joined State Street in 2012 in London as the head of Legal for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Prior to State Street, Ritu held a global governance leadership role at Nomura during the integration of the ex-Lehman business, as the head of new business. Before this, she spent over eleven years at Credit Suisse as head of the derivatives practice group leading legal support for the bank’s most complex businesses. Ritu started her career as a derivatives lawyer at Clifford Chance in the financial services group.
Ritu gained her law degree at University College London.
