Introducing a secure, digital channel enables greater automation of traditionally manual workflows. This improves accuracy, reduces risk through digital instruction capture, and provides more timely data to support faster operational cycles. Clients also gain an easier path to adopting modern technology without requiring changes to their own systems. This first use case provides clients with an immediate and measurable improvement in service quality, demonstrating blockchain as a live, production ready solution that enhances day to day TA operations.

Rubén Nieto (RN): This collaboration begins by addressing a very specific and longstanding operational challenge: the inefficiencies and manual workload associated with stock transfer processing. Through a fully digital, blockchain based workflow, reconciliation steps are reduced or eliminated, operational risk is reduced, and execution becomes faster and more transparent. By delivering a tangible, real world improvement from day one, the initiative establishes a strong foundation for broader digital transformation across distribution and asset servicing processes.

RN: This initial use case is only the first step toward a range of services delivered through a unified digital infrastructure. Blockchain is a key enabler for the next generation of TA operating models, particularly in improving TA efficiency, as well as tokenization and distribution capabilities. As the collaboration evolves, it can support more advanced digital distribution models, including tokenized fund servicing. By combining State Street’s scale and expertise with Allfunds Blockchain’s infrastructure, the relationship is well positioned to deliver increasingly innovative solutions.

JT: This effort demonstrates how modern digital capabilities can enhance TA operations, but it is not our only focus. State Street remains open to working with a range of fintech and technology partners, where doing so can help clients benefit from innovation responsibly. As digital fund distribution, tokenized assets, and data rich investor servicing models continue to grow, we see broad opportunities to expand digital client and investor onboarding, improve connectivity between distributors, platforms, and transfer agents, and leverage emerging technologies — whether blockchain based or not — to enhance transparency, resilience, and automation. Blockchain is one of several technologies with the potential to modernize TA operations, and our approach remains open and technology agnostic. We partner where it makes sense for our clients, including with fintechs, established providers, and emerging innovators.

JT: We bring deep experience in risk management, cybersecurity, and regulatory oversight, ensuring blockchain enabled services meet the same standards applied to critical financial infrastructure. Both organizations operate in highly regulated environments, and the collaboration has been built around robust standards of cybersecurity, data protection, client protection protocols, and regulatory alignment across key jurisdictions. A measured, risk sensitive rollout ensures new technologies are introduced safely and with appropriate oversight, reflecting our longstanding approach to innovation that strengthens trust, stability, and compliance.

RN: We operate a private, permissioned network with strict governance, participant verification, and data integrity controls. This ensures that all interactions are traceable, compliant, and aligned with regulatory expectations for fund distribution and investor protection. Working closely with State Street to meet client needs, we adopt a compliance by design framework, embedding regulatory principles directly into workflows and technical architecture to reinforce consumer confidence and ensure innovation does not compromise safety or governance.

JT: Tokenization represents a significant evolution for the investment industry, with the potential to make asset issuance, distribution, and lifecycle management more efficient. Our aim is to play the role clients expect from a trusted global servicer, supporting both traditional and digital assets with institutional grade safeguards. We see opportunities in enabling more efficient settlement and distribution models, supporting digitized fund structures and new forms of investor access, and simplifying operational processes through increased automation and transparency. At the same time, challenges remain, including regulatory harmonization and the need for common technical standards. This reinforces our strategy to work collaboratively across the industry — including with fintechs and technology partners — to help shape an ecosystem that is safe, scalable, and aligned with institutional requirements.

RN: Tokenization offers opportunities to enhance liquidity, redesign product structures, and simplify global distribution models. Participating early in this ecosystem is essential to shaping standards and building operational capabilities that institutional clients increasingly expect.

JT: Our latest Digital Assets and Emerging Technology Study shows rising expectations across the industry. TA is increasingly central to these plans, with around a quarter of respondents identifying TA as a top priority area in their digital asset strategies. Expectations for tokenization have accelerated significantly. A growing share of respondents believe on chain trading and custody will become mainstream within five years (up from 11 percent last year), and 68 percent believe it will do so within a decade (versus 29 percent previously). Near term priorities include the capability to tokenize assets and funds, issue those assets on chain, and convert cash between traditional and digital formats. We are developing our digital capabilities to align with this demand, while remaining technology agnostic and engaging with a broad range of fintechs, technology partners, and industry participants to ensure clients can confidently navigate the transition to a more digitized investment landscape.

RN: As State Street’s research recognizes, demand for digital assets and tokenized financial instruments is accelerating as institutions seek more efficient, transparent, and flexible investment structures. And starting with a live, value adding use case such as stock transfers, both our organizations demonstrate that innovation must be practical, compliant, and directly beneficial to clients, while building capabilities required for a broader transition to tokenized products and digital distribution.
