Mike Richards is executive vice president and chief administrative officer (CAO) at State Street. One of his primary responsibilities is to handle the center-led First Line Business Risk and Controls Program. This program establishes the framework and reporting that supports business and functional leaders’ responsibility to establishand maintain effective internal controls over their key business and operational activities. In addition, he is the Management Committee sponsor for the Three Lines of Defense and Corporate Functions Transformation Work Streams. He is a member of our Executive Committee, the company's most senior strategy and policy-making team.

Mike is responsible for handling our executive assistant or support network, as well as the enterprise CAO network supporting our executive management. He also assists the CEO’s Office in overall administration of Management Committee and corporate governance activities. Prior to this role, he served as general auditor at State Street Corporation.

Before joining us in June 2014, Mike was a partner at Ernst & Young and was responsible for managing their Banking Capital Markets practice in the United States. Before that, he was a partner at Arthur Andersen. He has 30 years of experience in auditing public financial services companies and in providing advisory services, including risk management, regulatory compliance, finance and transaction advisory services or due diligence services to clients in the global banking and financial services industry.

Mike was a member of Ernst & Young’s America’s Ethics Oversight Board and has actively supported various non-profit boards and charitable organizations over the past years, including City Year, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Boston Partners in Education and others. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
